Lattice Automation, Inc. provides complete solutions to fundamentally change the way that synthetic biological designs are conceived, designed, physically created, and managed. Our technology builds upon state-of-the-art techniques and technology in computer science, electrical engineering, and bioengineering. We are building a team of software developers, computer scientists, and biologists that can collaboratively engineer and deploy novel computational tools, and we hope that you will consider joining us. 

As a Junior Software Engineer you will be part of a team focused on delivering cutting edge software solutions to synthetic biology customers. You will support the coding effort and help to deploy customer-facing software. You will primarily develop and deliver code written in Python or JavaScript (ReactJS), although customer tech stacks can vary and Java, C/C#, AngularJS, etc. are in play. You will work with a team of experts in algorithms, software design, synthetic biology, and interface design.

This position has an enormous amount of space for growth. We will work together to improve your skill set and expand your knowledge through workshops, conferences, and a steady backlog of programming tasks. This is a fast-paced startup environment, candidates should be interested in working in a dynamic environment.

Your responsibilities

  • Collaborating with the Lattice team to engineer software solutions to meet particular customer needs in the areas of biological specification languages, design processes, and physical assembly and planning algorithms.
  • Maintaining relevant code repositories, writing tests, and documenting.
  • Working with senior members of the engineering team to meet with customers and translate user needs into software artifacts and processes.
  • Contributing to ongoing coding efforts when called upon to improve interface form and functionality, debug marked issues, and prepare code to be shipped.

About you

You are interested in working on software for synthetic biology with a small, hard-working team. You are interested in working with a high degree of autonomy. You are comfortable working to define your regular deliverables and setting software development milestones with Lattice leadership. You have a fundamental interest in the application of computational tools to bring engineering principles to biology. You are interested in learning more about synthetic biology and participating in professional development opportunities. 

Qualifications/Experience

  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science/Engineering, Bioinformatics, or Computational Biology with 2+ years of software development work experience.
  • Preferably you are based in Boston, MA.
  • Experience with modern Javascript technologies (ReactJS, Angular, etc.) and Python.
  • Familiar with package management technologies like npm.
  • Basic understanding of NoSQL database technologies and GraphQL and REST APIs.
  • Experience with Github issue management, PRs, and code review processes.
  • Basic background in algorithms.
  • Biology background is a plus but not a requirement.
  • Independent, smart-working self starter who takes pride in their work and has a passion for science and engineering.
